"

Cuando el corazón palpita
la sangre circula,
la vida continúa
y la muerte se aleja.

Cuando la muerte se acerca,
la vida se frena,
la sangre se coagula
y el corazón ya no bombea.

I’ve never seen a 12 lead EKG, could you explain the clinical advantages over a 3 lead and some basic red flags you look for?

Well; a 3-lead EKG can give only limited information compared to a 12-lead EKG, which can provide detailed information about the patient’s heart rhythm, a previous heart attack, increased thickness of heart muscle, signs of decreased oxygen delivery to the heart, and problems with conduction of the electrical current from one portion of the heart to another; a 3-lead EKG is used for continuous monitoring of patients when the crucial information that is needed is heart rate and basic rhythm, a 3-lead EKG can also be used in conjunction with other heart tests such as an echocardiogram.

Some clinical advantages of 12-lead EKG: rapid Identification of infarction/injury, decreased time to reperfusion treatment and modification to therapies.

If you suspect an ischemia, you should look: ST segment depression or T wave inversion, if you suspect an injury: should look ST segment elevation, if you suspect an infarct: prolonged injury results in death of tissue and may or may not show Q wave. You must always remember; time is crucial when it comes to treating a heart attack patient; every minute counts, pain is injury, time is muscle , time saves lives, pain-free is the goal and door to reperfusion therapy time is the issue.

A 56yo woman came to the emergency department with constant retrosternal pain and was accompanied by nausea, this standard 12-lead electrocardiogram showed slight ST-segment elevation in leads III and aVF due to occlusion of the right coronary artery.
